It’s the best comedy series of all time, but you probably stopped watching it after 6 episodes

If we talk about comic series, we can cite many works that have marked the history of television such as Friends, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory or Seinfeld and Parks and Recreation. But we sometimes forget another one which is nevertheless ultra cult and appreciated: The Office. The series worn by Steve Carell between 2005 and 2013 is a jewel which however has an obstacle to take full advantage of it: its first season. Its first six episodes do not do justice to what begins to develop right after and have caused many to give up far too soon. Bad decision, because they lost the best comedy series that exists.

even better than The Simpsons !

Some might say the best comedy out there is The Simpsons – it’s the one that appears in the majority of rankings – but Matt Groening’s work transcends humor and, beyond the great scenes that we all remember, its value lies in its critical vision of society, more only in pure entertainment. It’s there that The Office stands out, with its only function: make the viewer laugh out loud. Furthermore, it is clear that The Office ended its history after 7 brilliant seasons and 2 rather good ones (the departure of Steve Carell weighed heavily), while The Simpsons have slowly – but surely – lost their luster.

The Office, on the other hand, is a perfect mix of endearing characters and surreal situations. The creator, Greg Daniels, relies 100% on his protagonists, which requires that each of them be special, unique and that viewers can relate to them. It’s impossible not to find something charming in Dwight’s weirdness (Rainn Wilson), Angela’s (Angela Kinsey) antipathy, Kevin’s (Brian Baumgartner) clumsiness, Oscar’s naivety (Oscar Nuñez ) and, of course, the irresistible love story of Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski). On top of all that, we also have the magnificent Michael Scott, the perfect boss to hate but who we can’t live without. Steve Carell is the soul of the series and one of the key elements of its success.

Pass season 1 and you will be rewarded!

The Office is a mockumentary that tells the daily life of the workers of Dunder Mifflin, a fictitious company specializing in the sale of paper. Developed by Greg Daniels (a veteran of saturday night live and simpsons), it is the adaptation of the British comedy of the same name by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. In fact, the pilot is a direct adaptation of the original series, as Daniels felt starting completely from scratch would have been too risky.

The UK version consists of two seasons of six episodes each and was oddly canceled due to low ratings, but ended up being one of the most exported British comedies in history. His character is much rougher than the American, with a team leader, David Brent (Ricky Gervais), much more unsympathetic than the endearing Michael Scott. Like the first season of The Office (USA version) is directly inspired by the British version, its sense of humor is not so sharp, but The Office quickly found its way.

The first season received reviews of all kinds, but basically poor. After this reception, the creator decided to give it a more optimistic touch and make Michael Scott a kinder character. In this way he moved away from the purely British character of the original and found the key to success.

The whole of The Office is available on Netflix and Prime Video.
