Legacies Season 5 Would Have Introduced Child Of Vampire Diaries Characters | Pretty Reel

After wrapping up with its 4th season, Legacies creator Julie Plec reveals that a potential Season 5 would have introduced more Vampire Diaries characters.

If Legacies Season 5 had happened, the show would have featured the daughter of two major The Vampire Diaries characters. Legacies is the second spin-off from The Vampire Diaries universe, which is adapted from LJ Smith’s young adult novel series of the same name and began airing on The CW in 2009. Following the events of the The series finale of the first spin-off The Originals, Legacies follows the students and staff of the Salvatore School, an educational institution for the gifted. The series cast includes Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, Chris Lee, Leo Howard, Ben Levin and Matthew Davis from The Vampire Diaries.

Midway through Legacies season 4, the show suffered a huge amount of cancellations at The CW, which also saw the end of popular long-running shows like Riverdale and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Luckily, the show’s creators were given advance notice that this might be the case, so they were able to construct a fitting ending for the season 4 finale, which had now become the series finale. This included two major cameos from the Vampire Diaries universe: a spectral visit from Hope Mikaelson’s deceased father, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and the return of Caroline Forbes (Candice King), who is in a relationship with the director of the Salvatore school, Alaric Saltzman. but had not yet appeared on Legacies.

Speaking to TVLine, Legacies creator Julie Plec revealed part of their scrapped plan for Season 5. If the show had been allowed to go ahead, it would have properly introduced Stephanie Salvatore, the daughter of two of the main characters from The Vampire Diaries: Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Plec said his inclusion was “right at the top of our whiteboard.” Read his full quote below:

[Stephanie was] right at the top of our whiteboard as the character we intended to introduce, should the show move forward.

In my mind, Damon and Elena had children in our timeline. The way we alluded to her in the genius episode was like she was 12 or 13 years old. But in the inheritance timeline, their children were younger, probably toddlers.

Stephanie Salvatore is a character that until now has been considered non-canonical. She was glimpsed as a tween during the events of a Season 1 episode when a genius opened up an alternate universe, but Plec said the real Stephanie in the Legacy timeline would be quite different. They should have integrated it either by making a “jump in time, or [playing] over time somehow” so they can get her to interact with a “teenage Pedro”.

This continued connection to its parent franchise would certainly have thrilled Legacies fans, had this season come to fruition. While the two Vampire Diaries cameos they got in the finale were certainly satisfying, a slower approach that allowed the universe to expand even further would have been better. However, Plec may have the opportunity to bring Stephanie to life in a new series, as she is currently in talks with The CW for new iterations of the Vampire Diaries universe.
