Love, blood and jazz: the Interview with the vampire series promises to be deliciously dark

Based on Anne Rice’s novel, Interview with the Vampire chronicles the tumultuous relationship between two bloodsucking men. After the 1994 film, from the fall of 2022, it’s time for the series!

The vampires will soon be back among us… In 2020, Paramount and its AMC channel bought the rights to The Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches ofAnne Rice. As early as 2016, the American author announced that she wanted to adapt her work as a series, Interview with a Vampire.

Died in December 2021, Anne Rice will still be credited with the production of the series, since she participated in it before her death.. However, we are clearly unaware of his involvement in the new editorial choices of this novelty to be published probably in the fall of 2022.

Everything we know about the Interview with the Vampire series

The series will feature eight episodes, written by screenwriter Rolin Jones, including showrunner for the series Perry Mason. Director Alain Taylor signs the first two episodes, the shooting of which started in December 2021 in New Orleans – the city which serves as the setting for a good part of the original story.

The plot of the series will broadly resume the story of Anne Rice: we will follow the fate of three vampires, two men and a woman.

The original story begins at the end of the 18th century in the heart of New Orleans, where Louis from Pointe du Lac owns a profitable indigo plantation. Then he meets an enchanting vampire, Lestat de Lioncourtwho offers him immortality. Both are cloistered for eternity in an agonizing romance, challenged by communication and intimacy issues.

In the teaser of this new series, published last week, or by the first official images leaked, the plot of the series seems to be set more recently in the Jazz Age, in the 1920s-1930s. Several hypotheses are available to our interpretation: either Louis becomes a vampire later, or the plot explores this part of their history as opposed to previous centuries.

Still, in many respects, the golden age of jazz is much more “sellable”: the soundtrack is catchy and the costumes are lovely. Also, since the release of the book in 1976, our world has changed a lot; certain themes addressed by Anne Rice, such as slavery or homosexuality, will perhaps be treated differently.

Who will star in Interview with the Vampire?

The character of Louis from Pointe du Lacbeautiful and sad, which will make Lestat eternally addicted, will be performed by Jacob Andersonknown to play Gray Worm in Game Of Thrones.

sam reidan unrecognized Australian actor, will play the role of Lestat de Lioncourt, a vampire of French origin, mysterious, with a pronounced black humor. Lestat experiences all feelings with intensity such as love and hate, but does not reveal anything to those around him. He believes that Louis’ humanity will allow him to enter a new era.

Bailey Basswho will also play in Avatar 2 and 3will embody the character of the vampire child, Claudia. It is Lestat who finds Claudia, an orphan, and who decides to transform her into a vampire so that Louis stays with him, and that all three are a real family…

Eric Bogosianactor in New York Criminal Sectionwill interpret Daniel Molloywho is only referred to as the “boy” in Rice’s novel. There is a real bias in the script to transform the “boy” into a man of almost seventy.

Certainly, nostalgia will be there, and we would have a thought for the 1994 film adaptation, directed by Neil Jordan, which brought together Tom Cruise in the role of Lestat, alongside Brad Pitt and Kristen Dunst. As Lestat would say: “Don’t be scared, I’ll give you the choice I never had”…

Release scheduled for fall 2022 for the series!
