During Wizards Presentsfans of Magic: The Gathering they were able to discover the plans of Wizards of the Coast. The upcoming releases in the product line were revealed during the event Universes Beyond. This is a way for fans to play Magic: The Gathering outside of Magic’s planes, with cards representing iconic fictional settings and pop culture characters.
The players were able to take a first look in detail at the latest entry in the Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000. In addition to four Commander decks, four Sol Rings have been themed to represent each faction: the Imperium of Men, the Tyranids, the Necrons and Chaos. The cards in the collector’s edition of each commander deck have a new Surge Foil treatment.
In the third quarter of 2023, players will be able to travel to Mount Doom with Frodo, Aragorn and the rest of the Fellowship. Help them on their quest to destroy the One Ring in The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set. Magic designers showed an extensive artwork for the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, the largest battle in the War of the Ring in Minas Tirith. This is made up of 18 single cards, part of a booster distribution that will immerse fans in Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth set is coming also on Magic: The Gathering Arena as an Alchemy setduring the next year.
Magic: The Gathering also joins forces with Doctor Who, in a new Universes Beyond collaboration. Commander decks, collectible boosters and Secret Lair launches covering the 60-year history of the longest-running action-adventure television series in the world. In 2023, Magic: The Gathering is also celebrating its 30th birthday. The one-year celebration will kick off this year and will include the Magic 30 event. This will be held at the EXPO in Las Vegas at the World Market Center from October 28-30. Special promotions are coming to commemorate the history of Magic and others that will only take place in local game stores.
By the end of the year, players will be back where it all started, in Dominaria United. Home to the first set of Magic released in 1993 and the centerpiece of the story for the first decade, Dominaria is the centerpiece of the Magic multiverse. The Dominarians will clash with the Phyrexians in what will be the beginning of an epic four-set story arc. Dominaria United will be released on September 9th, but fans can pre-order it right now. Some of the cards have already been revealed, including Liliana del Velo and above all a new Ajani. However, many goodies for fans, such as the return of poison counters, a new ability and much more.
To complete the inaugural Wizards Presents, Wizards of the Coast has revealed future Magic: The Gathering sets which will debut in 2023. The Phyrexian story arc continues with Brothers’ Warout in November, followed by Phyrexia: All Will Be Onedue out in the first quarter of 2023, and will end with March of the Machinedue out in Q2 of 2023. March of the Machine: The Aftermath, also out in Q2 of 2023, will revive the pending issues in March of the Machine and explore the fundamental changes that will have taken place in the Multiverse by Magic.
In the third quarter of 2023, players will return to Eldraine, a fan favorite plan that draws inspiration from classic fairy tales, with Wilds of Eldraine. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Lost Caverns of Ixalan it will end the year with pirates, dinosaurs and vampires fighting for dominance. Are you ready to play?
