Who are the characters in Redfall? With the introduction of Redfall, its new cooperative first-person shooter, Arkane Studios has introduced us to four new heroes, a group of companions who try to save Redfall from his supernatural situation. Who are these vampire hunters, what do they do in Redfall, and what kind of arsenal does each one work with? Well, we’re about to let you in on a little secret.
While each of the Red Fall Characters fitting a certain archetype, this fearsome quartet are much more than just your typical shooter characters. Each has a unique personality, with particular histories that shape their attitudes and a set of special abilities that make them every vampire’s worst nightmare.
Learning each of Redfall’s hero strengths will allow you and your party to shape your party as you see fit, even if it means multiple instances of the same characters. In that spirit, here’s a brief introduction to each of the Redfall characters so you can choose which one to take into battle when Redfall’s release date arrives.
Jacob is the group’s long-range specialist, using a high-powered rifle to take down vampires and cultists from afar. He developed his sniper skills in the Special Forces and as a private military mercenary, and his official biography says it was a job with “one of those corporations that brought his unit to Redfall under mysterious orders known only to the superiors of the”. We’re willing to guess that those “mysterious orders” will show up at some point in the game and the reveal won’t end well for our hero.
Jacob’s skills as a sniper are further enhanced by his “Eye of the Undead”, which grants him more precise aiming abilities, as well as a cloaking device that allows him to get into position to fire supernaturally. If enemies get too close for a sniper rifle to be effective, Jacob can also conjure an ethereal raven to distract enemies and allow his teammates to get closer while he finds a new position.
If you’re a sniper type, Jacob is the character for you.
Devinder ‘Dev’ Crousley
Devinder is a popular influencer in the Redfall universe, specializing in the field of “cryptozoology,” which sounds like the study of how Bitcoin turns into a living animal, but is actually focused on finding cryptids like Sasquatch or the Loch Ness Monster. While this initially sounds like he may be ill-equipped for battle against real monsters, Dev has a few tricks up his sleeve thanks to his loadout of self-made weapons.
Dev is a skilled inventor as “his studies have given him the knowledge he needs to craft his own anti-vampire weaponry,” according to his official biography. Among the most impressive weapons in Dev’s arsenal is a staff that emits bursts of ultraviolet light, instantly turning all basic vampires around it to ash. Using this to pick off a large group of vampires whenever they get too close will likely prove invaluable throughout the game, so learning the staff from him will be very important very quickly.
If you’re the type that likes unconventional weapons and the potential ability to mod or build upgrades, Devinder should be your pick.
Remi De La Rosa
Remi is an engineer who specializes in robotics and brought that experience to the Coast Guard to help develop new search and rescue technology. A fateful mission to Redfall just before the vampire invasion sealed his fate, and he must now put that knowledge of robotics to good use to take down the hordes. Lucky for us, she already has.
Remi teams up with a little robot sidekick named Bribón, which means “rogue” in Spanish, and is a highly advanced robot designed to be a decoy, cover, and attack drone all in one. She can send the robot into battle in front of her, serving as a distraction so he can pick off enemies from the sides or behind her.
Careful strategists, along with fans of cool robots that can kick butt, should consider Remi when choosing a hero.
Finally we have Layla, perhaps the most relatable of the four heroes. Layla came to Redfall to study biomedical engineering and, although she ended up with a degree, she also racked up a lot of student debt. She volunteered for a clinical trial to earn some extra money and showed up for treatment just as the legion of vampires attacked. She was knocked unconscious and, when she finally regained consciousness, she found herself in a new world with a new set of superpowers.
Layla’s signature purple telekinetics allow her to manipulate the environment around her, push and pull objects with her powers, generate shields, and more. She also wields a massive umbrella charged with kinetic energy, which can fire blasts at enemies as seen in the 2021 reveal trailer. Also in that trailer, Layla is shown to use her telekinetic powers to recharge her weapons, and is seen great every time we see it.
That’s all we know so far about the four vampire hunters trying to save the world of Redfall: the Redfall characters. Not much else has been revealed about Redfall’s map and world, so we’ll have to wait to find out more.
