All the tracks looked like it but…
After an ignition delay and a release postponed to 2023, red fallexclusivity Xbox stamped Arkane Studios is slowly but surely approaching its exit. Because as a reminder, in the wake of Starfield, the title plunging into a monstrous-vampiric universe also suffered the wrath of the delay to heal its score. As always the decision was not simple, subject to criticism, but essential according to Microsoft :
“We have made the difficult decision to postpone Starfield and Redfall releases to the first half of 2023.”
“The teams at Arkane Studios and Bethesda Games Studios have incredible ambitions for their games, and want to make sure you’re enjoying the best games in their most polished versions. ”
If today, neither of the two titles has returned to rely on the term formalization (the long-awaited conference to do so), they are nonetheless alive in the realm of current affairs. For its part, Starfield, for example, distinguished itself by discreet confirmation of its exit window. As for red fallit was the fruit ofan interview which allows you to learn more about him. And on this occasion, it was even a question of setting things straight with regard to ambitions.
It will not have escaped you, since Redfall became famous, the sensations were those of facing a Left 4 Dead like. Four heroes, weapons and skills to wade through waves of enemies made up of peons and specials, weapons and a pretty steady pace…all signals pointed to an exercise that has been reused over and over again since Valve rocked the world from this mechanical.
However, according to Harvey Smith and Richard Bare, respectively director and creative director of the studio based in Austin, things will be much closer to another universe, just as famous, that of Far Cry:
“It is totally understandable to come to this conclusion. There are four playable characters, you can play together in co-op, and you battle the undead. But, when it comes to how you play and experience Redfall, it’s not like those games at all. Redfall is more like jumping into Far Cry”
A Far Cry that takes root in a world inspired by the best of Arkane while offering him a different setting, not forgetting this feeling of familiarity that is born in the studio’s games, Deathloop can testify to it:
“We wanted to take a familiar setting and deepen it. Redfall Island must be a place where, after hours of exploring, you feel like you know it like you know Talos or Dunwall. When I say we wanted to go deeper, that’s what I mean: “What if we took all of our experience – and our creative values – and put it in an open world? » ”
Open Redfall will therefore be fully open, with a certain freedom of action in a world that will be larger than that of Prey cited for the example:
“We have a home base where you can talk to NPCs and get side quests. You can go to the mission table and choose story related missions. Or you can scoff at the whole thing and get out there, choose a direction, start hanging out, and bump into whatever is going on in the living world. ”
On the other hand, tempering on the Far Cry theme, not necessarily fully appreciated by its excesses, Arkane also wants to reassure on the volume of the title which will not stray towards ad nauseam:
‟ In terms of freedom, there is what you would expect from other open worlds, but Redfall is a game that takes place on foot – the scale and pace are a bit slow in this regard ”
“We want you to slip through a cornfield at night in the fog, hear the vampires whispering in the dark. You might spot a farm in the distance and sneak into it, only to find it’s full of cultists and a few trapped survivors you can save. This is the kind of atmosphere that reigns in Redfall. ”
An atmosphere that will open the doors to this famous cooperation in places of the obligatory, the solo being a completely valid track to cross the island and the adventure, even if the developers insist on the fact that the synergy between the powers is fun when it comes to multiplayer games.
In any case… one thing is certain, Redfall does not lack ambition and could therefore prove to be much more substantial than it seemed at first glance.
‟ I hope that we will succeed in convincing the public. The creation of a deep world, an environmental storytelling, combat intertwined with powers, a world created with love, a sense of history and character… ”
“…if Redfall reaches the level of quality we think it will be, then it will be another beast. It’s really great; he does a lot of cool things. ”
Let’s hope for the players that the ambitions materialize.
