Everything we know about Renfield
The trailer for Renfield features many new details on the plot and characters of the film. The story revolves around Hoult’s character Renfield who is tired of being Dracula’s henchman and wants out of this toxic relationship.
It is a reinterpretation of the well-known character of Universal, typically portrayed as a devoted follower of Dracula. Renfield is gifted with a variety of powers whenever he eats spiders or other insects. These abilities are showcased in the trailer and hint that the 2023 horror film will make good use of labeling him to include a lot of gore and violence.
There will be two key characters in the story of Renfield which will take the henchman in different directions: one is his love interest, a security guard played by Awkwafina, and the other is Dracula played by Nicolas Cage.
The other story details are still being kept under wraps, such as the characters Renfield faces throughout the trailer. However, the expectation that the film is a horror action-comedy certainly holds true, given the tone imprinted in this teaser.
This Dracula can lead to the rebirth of Nicolas Cage
While it’s been used sparingly in the hype thus far, Renfield looks to be another film that will continue the relaunch of Nicolas Cage’s career. The actor has never slowed down on the number of his projects, but most of them have been little-known films with mixed reviews.
However, in the last year it has had a great success thanks to Pig of 2021, in which he delivered a performance that should have brought him an Oscar nomination. Nicolas Cage continued with the hilarious meta-comedy The Talented Mr. C in 2022.
Playing Dracula has always been a role Cage could have excelled in, and Renfield’s first trailer proves he’s managed to deliver another memorable performance.
