Gianluca Paradiso: “I love Puccini’s music, they manage to transport me to another dimension”
Actor and director, Gianluca Paradiso studied at the “Gabbris Ferrari” Opera Entertainment Academy, and Diction with Eros Papadakis.
In the theater he has participated in dozens of productions, among which we remember in particular: “The Human Gender”, “Woyzeck”, “Oedipus Rex”, “The Suitcase of the Actor”, “Invisible”.
He was Assistant Director of the Opera Don Giovanni and then Traviata, The Barber of Seville and Don Pasquale.
Since January 2020 he has been collaborating with “The Play – theater and cinema” realizing “Invisibili (DOC)” of which he is the author and sole actor on stage, and “Vale” (music video written and performed by Lorenzo Dei, directed by Diego de Francesco and photography by Damiano Ballarin and Mattia Carraro).
From 2 October 2020 he was appointed artistic director at the Palaeventi Theater in Padua.
How and when did you discover your passion for theatre?
The initial approach was “strange”. I was 14 and had decided to take a theater class at my school. As a goal I had set myself to meet people and overcome shyness (I’m very shy).
I won’t go into detail, but that was a terrible experience: we had to stage “Waiting for Godot”; I entered the stage, I didn’t remember the lines, so I improvised.
From that moment I decided never to do it again. However, I don’t remember how, I continued…
Until, one day, Aldo Stella saw me recite.
It was he who encouraged me to undertake more important studies. And it was always he who “handed down” to me this beautiful disease that is theatre.
Did you study music, singing?
I’m studying it right now. I don’t define myself as an aficionado… that is, not a connoisseur. As a child, I hardly ever listened to it.
I don’t have a precise genre, I prefer the Opera because I found myself in it… professionally speaking.
I met Alessandro Bertolotti with whom I collaborate and work in the opera field. He is the true expert in opera music, I assist him in directing.
We study the Work in question together, we analyze all its facets to be able to give the public an original idea (which is very difficult nowadays…)
Some experiences in theater with music that you remember with particular pleasure? And where did you have the most difficulty? (as interpreter or as director or assistant director)
The experience that I remember with the most joy is the Don Giovanni that we made in Carpi on March 11, 2022.
It was quite a challenge because we had little time to prepare it.
But we’ve been fortunate to work alongside singers who have full command of scene and complete immersion in character.
What do you like to listen to in private? Musicians you particularly love?
I love Puccini’s music, they manage to transport me to another dimension.
What are you doing lately, especially that combine music and theater? And what will you do next?
We are waiting for confirmation of some works, but it is certain that we will resume Don Pasquale and Don Giovanni by next summer.
In the field of prose, on the other hand, I will be on stage on February 25th in Recitando (Padua) with “Il Principe Nato dal Buio”.
It is a monologue written and performed by me, with Ilaria Tommasini on stage.
Directed by Alessandro Bertolotti in collaboration with Recitando by Vittorio Attene.
I will play a Vampire who will tell his story, highlighting the merits but also the defects of an eternal and boring life.
How can we follow your activity?
I am very active on social media, in fact every time they ask me I invite everyone to follow me on Instagram. But I also have a youtube page.
I wait for you!
