Introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films are a collection of superhero films presented based on the characters from the Marvel comics. Since the first movie released, Project Iron Man (2008), the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has gone on to release another 29 movies. Many Marvel movies have been ranked among the highest-grossing films of all time.

Do you know…?

Michael Jackson once tried to buy Marvel Comics.

In the early 90s, King of Pop Michael Jackson tried to buy Marvel Comics. The reason ? He wanted to play the role of Spider-Man in his version of the film.

Stan Lee said during an interview with Moviefone that while he thought Jackson might have been a good actor for the role, Tobey Maguire was a better fit for him.

The Marvel Universe has a maintenance unit.

This special unit is appropriately called Damage Control. In the Marvel Comics universe, this group is a construction company that specializes in repairing property damage caused by conflicts between heroes and villains.

This group first appeared in issue #4 of the Marvel Age Annual.

How to watch the Marvel movies in order

Want to experience the MCU in a more complex way? Then you might want to know how to watch Marvel movies in chronological order.

This list is a little less simple than the previous one. Luckily, Marvel has revealed most of the official years in which each movie takes place. That goes all the way to Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which slots right in between Endgame and Far From Home, and Hawkeye, which takes place around No Way Home. We’re now in 2025, with She-Hulk and Thor: Love and Thunder seemingly all set in that not-too-distant future year.

But beware: Marvel sometimes takes creative liberties with the chronological order of some of these entries. Our list uses Marvel’s official order on Disney Plus as a guide, but some things might seem a little odd if you think about it too much. I’m watching you, Night Werewolf. And also for the completists among you – the I Am Groot “First Steps” short takes place before Guardians 2, while the rest of the shorts take place after this sequel.

Expected release date: February 17, 2023

Following the course of events in the MCU, the third film in the Ant-Man series is also set in the battle against Thanos. As cosmic peace has just been restored, Scott Lang is in a relaxed mood, enjoying the taste of fame when he’s a member of the Avengers to save the world.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)

Expected release date: May 5, 2023

After Avengers: Endgame, many changes took place within the “Guardians” roster, including the “resurrection” of Gamora. The director of this film also stated that this will be the last time audiences will see the entire Galactic Squad onscreen. It seems that after the game ends, the movie will revolve around the search for Gamora after the final fight against Thanos.

3. The Wonders (2023)

Expected release date: July 28, 2023

In the new film, actress Brie Larson will continue to play superhero Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) along with two other characters, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. Monica Rambeau’s past was also revealed in episode 7 of the Wanda Vision series. Due to her exposure to cosmic microwaves, she gained the ability to simulate and control all forms of energy, including flight, stealth, and super speed. This suggests that we won’t be seeing just one superhero in this latest Marvel movie.

4. Blade (2023)

Expected release date: November 03, 2023

The return of Blade – the vampire slayer played by Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali is much loved by MCU fans. Blade was the brand that revived the MCU empire in the 90s, but due to financial constraints, Marvel sold the rights to New Line Cinema. Later, during the redemption of its darling child, Marvel did not hesitate to bring Blade into the MCU with the ambition to expand its superheroic universe.

5. Captain America: New World Order (2024)

Expected release date: May 03, 2024

In the fourth installment of the Captain America series, MCU fans are also preparing to welcome a new captain to replace Steve Rogers, namely Sam Wilson. The details of this new movie are still a mystery, but it’s likely that we’ll still see Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) appear in this film.

6.Thunderbolts (2024)

Expected release date: July 26, 2024

Unlike the Avengers, the Thunderbolts are a group of villains posing as heroes. After gaining the public’s trust, they used their power to arrange world events in their favor. Marvel’s intent in casting this group of villains is unclear, but hopefully there will be a fiery battle with the Avengers in the future.

Expected release date: September 6, 2024

According to an informed source, Hugh Jackman will return in the third installment of Deadpool as Wolverine, a time before the event of the eternal departure of the werewolf in 2029.

2. Fantastic Four (2024)

Expected release date: November 8, 2024

This scenario was predicted by MCU fans as soon as Marvel acquired 20th Century Fox. What we know of the Fantastic Four so far is the appearance of a longtime villain who has appeared in the MCU. Marvel has yet to reveal anything new from previous films.

3. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025)

Expected release date: May 2, 2025

To close the Infinity Saga with the villainous Thanos, the “final boss” of the Multiverse Saga will be Kang – the Conqueror. Kang is actually a talented scientist in the very distant future who first discovered the existence of the Multiverse. Kang contacted his other variants and learned knowledge and technologies in many dimensions. However, with too much ambition, he wants to rule the Multiverse. Although he doesn’t possess the same strength as Thanos, with his brilliant mind, he also caused the Avengers many difficulties.

4.Avengers: Secret Wars (2025)

Expected release date: November 7, 2025

The MCU’s Phase 6 opener films would be ‘carpeting’ projects for Avengers: Secret Wars. In particular, it is likely that the villain Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will have a direct connection to this episode, like Infinity War and Endgame. As a villain with ambitions to dominate the Multiverse, it’s possible Kang caused the dimensions to disrupt or worse, collapse, and the Avengers have to clear the ruins Kang created.
