The new leader of the study -together with Peter Safran- has announced some of the projects that they want to carry out in this new stage of the franchise.
Erase and new account. That is, more or less, what James Gunn and Peter Safran, the heads of DC Studiosfor the superhero franchise of Warner Bros. After a decade, his goal is fix the “fucked up” DC Universe doing the opposite of Marvel Studios: prioritizing the script and not announcing title release dates before the script is finalized.
“People have committed to dates [de estreno]with making movies no matter what,” Gunn has recounted of the modern studio habit of announcing projects without their creative teams having even been created. “In my heart, I am a writer and we are not going to do anything before the script is finished”.

The director, who premieres the May 5th Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3He wants to avoid what, according to him, has been happening for years in the film industry: making films without a written ending. “They make movies without a written third act and they start writing it during production, you know, making it up as they go along. And then you’re watching a bunch of people stick it out and the action doesn’t even flow.”

Another problem Gunn has talked about is superhero genre fatigue. For Gunn, unlike comments made by the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige, it’s real. What they both agree on is telling stories with different genres. “You can’t be telling the same ‘good guy, bad guy, giant thing in the sky, good guys win’ story again,” Gunn says. “You need to tell stories that are more morally complex. You need to tell stories that don’t just pretend to be different genres, but actually are different genres”.
The first chapter of the DC Universe will be named Gods and Monsters (Gods and Monsters). Among the projects that will be part of this era are Superman: Legacythe Superman reboot written by gunn It is the only new title that has a release date: July 11, 2025.

With that being said, what about Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Zachary Levi and whatnot. “There’s no reason why all the people you’ve mentioned couldn’t be part of the DC Universe.. We haven’t decided yet which story we want to tell that incorporates Shazam or Aquaman,” says Safran.

Finally, they have also talked about the controversies with Ezra Miller, which opens this year Flashand Levi -who recently made an anti-vaccine comment-, who will present soon Shazam! The fury of the gods.
“Ezra is fully committed to his recovery”Saffron says. “We support him on the journey he’s on now. When the time comes, when they decide they’re ready to talk, we’ll talk about how best to move forward. But for now, they’re completely focused on his recovery.”
Of Levi’s tweets, Gunn has said: “The actors and directors I work with are going to say things I agree with and disagree with.. And that is going to happen. I don’t have a list of things someone should say based on what I think. And you know, I can’t be changing my plans all the time because some actor said something I don’t agree with.”
As he concludes: “In the same way, whether someone does something morally reprehensible is another matter. We have to take all of that into account. It’s a balance. It’s a modern world and it’s a different place.”
