Ultra popular series from the 70s-80s, The Little House On The Prairie sadly saw several of its cast members die after the series ended. Back to the actors and actresses of the NBC show who have left us.

Michael Landon, the eternal Charles Ingalls of The Little House On The Prairie

The first person fans think of when mentioning the cast of The Little House On The Prairie who left us is obviously Michael Landon. Interpreter of the irreplaceable Charles Ingalls, Landon died of pancreatic cancer in 1991 when he was only 54 years old, after a fierce battle against the disease.

Richard Bull aka Nels Oleson

It was pneumonia that killed Richard Bull in February 2014, at the age of 89. And if the fans of The Little House On The Prairie Primarily remembered for his role as Nels Oleson, Nellie’s father, Bull had a busy career, which began in the 1950s. His last television appearance was on the series Bossin 2011.

Victor French

Like Michael Landon, Victor French also died at the age of 54 after a battle with lung cancer, two years before his former co-star, in 1989. After The Little House On The Prairiethe two actors had also found themselves in the project Highway to Heavenwhich is also his last appearance.

Katherine McGregor was Harriet Oleson in The Little House On The Prairie

It was in November 2018, at the age of 93, that the interpreter of Harriet Oleson breathed her last, after a life and a busy career. She leaves behind several emblematic roles, in addition to that of Nellie’s mother, thanks in particular to the many plays she has played on Broadway.

Dabbs Greer

Dabbs Greer played Reverend Robert Alden in The Little House On The Prairie and died aged 90 in 2007, suffering from kidney and heart disease. The actor was also known for starring in The green Line or in the series hank or Picket Fences. Her last on-screen role was on the Disney Channel show, Lizzie McGuire.

Karl Swenson

Unlike the other actors mentioned above, Karl Swenson died while the series was still airing. The man who plays the founder of Walnut Grove on the NBC show died of a heart attack in 1978 at the age of 70. Swenson’s passing somewhat haunted the rest of the production as the actor died a week before the episode aired in which his character, Lars Hanson also died.

Kevin Hagen aka Hiram Baker

In July 2005 Kevin Hagen, who played Doctor Hiram Baker in all seasons of The Little House On The Prairie, died of esophageal cancer. He was 77 years old. His role in the series remains the most emblematic of his career.

Merlin Olsen

Merlin Olsen played the role of Jonathan Garvey between seasons 4 and 7 of the series created by Blanche Hanalis but unfortunately the actor died in March 2010, at only 69 years old, because he was suffering from mesothelioma of the peritoneum, a rare and virulent form of cancer.

Queenie Smith

The American actress played Amanda Whipple in the first four seasons of The Little House On The Prairie. However, the fate of her character remained unresolved following the death of her interpreter, Queenie Smith, in 1978 as she approached the date of her 80th birthday. Unfortunately and like several other of his co-stars, it was cancer that caused his death.

Steve Tracy present in seasons 6 and 7 of The Little House On The Prairie

In seasons 6 and 7 of the series, we meet a certain Percival Dalton who becomes the husband of the famous Nellie Oleson. Steve Tracy, however, died very young, at only 34 years old, in November 1986. The actor died of complications related to AIDS, which also prompted Alison Arngrim (Nellie) to get involved in the fight against the virus.
