Morbius, Jared Leto becomes a vampire for Marvel

Jared Leto he seems to have taken a liking to playing villain roles for film adaptations of comic book stories. After taking on the role of Joker in the films of DC Comicsthe actor Academy Award for Dallas Buyers Clubhas now passed into the field of Marvel to lend a face (and teeth) to the enigmatic and tormented super pale anti-hero Michael Morbiusspin off of Spider-Man.

Morbius disease

Infected with a rare and dangerous blood disease, determined to save anyone destined to suffer the same fate as him, the brilliant Dr. Morbius takes a desperate gamble. But what initially seems to be a success soon turns out to be a potentially more dangerous remedy than the disease itself and new and mysterious impulses are unleashed in the scientist that seem to have little to do with the famous Spider-man motto: “From a great power great responsibilities come with it”. And therefore the question is a must: will good prevail over evil or will Morbius succumb?

The Morbius character first appears in issue #101 of The Amazing Spidermancomic written in 1971 by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Gil Kane. The doctor has Greek origins, he is a brilliant scientist who becomes a biochemist, also winning the Nobel Prize in his career. However Morbius suffers from a rare disease which manifests itself in the form of very aggressive anemia.

The failed experiment

In an attempt to cure himself, he undergoes a risky experiment that cures him of the original disease but leaves him with destructive side effects: he becomes a pseudo-vampire, forced to consume blood to survive. He can’t stand the light, can fly, and has amazing strength and speed. And he will end up colliding with the famous “web weaver”.

The album series

From his first appearance, the character then returned sporadically in Marvel comics until 1992, when the series dedicated to him was written: Morbius, the living vampire with thirty-two issues, running through April 1995.
