The BBC was born under the name of British Broadcasting Company in 1922, to be nationalized five years later and change its name to the one it still retains: British Broadcasting Corporation. Its initial objective was to connect the countries dependent on the British crown through an English-speaking radio signal. With the first television experiments launched, on Christmas Eve in 1933 he achieved the first broadcast of live images in history; in the summer of 1936 it would also offer open competitions for the Berlin Olympic Games. The BBC maintained a monopoly on British television until the 1950s, when private television appeared, in a model of competition between the private and the public that is still maintained in most Western countries.
