Good books often end up being adapted for film, and it’s always nice to see good stories projected onto a taut canvas. But some of these films are so popular that they are very, very much adapted into films or series. And after a while, I want to say that enough is enough. Even the best stories get boring when they’ve already been told 50 times.

The 3 Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

There have been adaptations, do you want some, and it had already gone too far from the moment we were taken out Albert the Fifth Musketeer, but here we are learning that a new adaptation will see the light of day with François Civil, Eva Green, Vincent Cassel and Romain Duris. There’s a moment when we went around the story, right?

The Dangerous Liaisons of Choderlos de Laclos

The film with Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer may have been excellent, it was only the 3rd adaptation of the book, and since then there have been a whole bunch of them, including a series and a film just for 2022. Palm of the worst adaptation goes to the version of Rachel Suissa broadcast on Netflix, which I invite you to watch if you like to be uncomfortable.

Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

Well, that’s too much: in addition to the original Disney and its 50 other adaptations, in 2022 we had a live action film and another in stop motion. What will it be next? A musical ? Oh shit, it already exists.

Tolkien’s work

The Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Rings of Power… Ok, we’ve seen worse but we have the impression that we’re going to take each of the guy’s books and make a video of it. And when we’re done, will we adapt our shopping lists too?

The fairy tales of Grimm, Andersen and Perrault

If it’s to make it smooth Disney and remove the darkest passages, no thank you.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

You see the Scrooge’s Funny Christmas with Jim Carey? Well, that’s basically the story of the book. And the Americans, they love to adapt this story again and again, with at least 4 movies and 4 TV movies so far. They’re spinning guys.

The Bible

It is perhaps the most suitable book in the world, so we will only mention the best known: The Prince of Egypt, The passion of Christ and The Magi (by Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan). The latter is the proof that we must calm down with the Bible.

All Franco-Belgian comics

Of Gaston Lagaffe to Smurfs Passing by Billy and Buddyabsolutely all of these films are disgusting and embarrassing, and yet we continue to produce them. Student Ducobu is already at 4 films, which makes me personally want to throw myself out of a window.

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

There are at least 33 films adapted from Miserables, not to mention TV movies, cartoons, and other shows. Frankly, even if it’s a great book and Hugo deserves respect, it may be a bit much. There are other books out there.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Ok vampires are very stylish and therefore it is tempting to adapt Dracula as soon as we want to make a film, but we are currently at more than 8 feature films on the gentleman with the long teeth, so we will calm down immediately please.

And you know these movies are adapted from books ? Me no.
