We know serious vampire movies like “Nosferatu”, “Dracula”, or even “Blade”. But there are also more offbeat vampire movies. Sometimes real good comedies, sometimes nanars that still make you laugh.
With its title, vampire academy sets the tone. Adapted from the first novel in the eponymous literary series by Richelle Mead, it is a fantastic comedy, a sort of improbable encounter between Twilight and Harry Potter. We follow two young girls in an academy for vampires. The first, Rose, is responsible for protecting the second, Princess Lissa. After both living among humans for a year, they are brought back to the institution to complete their studies. Obviously in such a place, there will be low blows and dangers.
Clearly, vampire academy is not a great movie. But with a lot of second degreepossibly a little alcohol, the film worn by Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry let himself be looked at. This did not prevent it from being a big “flop” at the box office with only 15 million dollars earned worldwide for a budget of 30 million, preventing any sequel from being produced.
Again, the title gives a small indication of what’s in store Lesbian Vampire Killers. Only, unlike vampire academy, we are here in a much more fun and offbeat comedy. With above all a British humor that we always appreciate.
We follow two friends on a trip to the English countryside. In the middle of a lost bled, they will meet unlikely pretty students. Problem, the village where they are, a curse turns 18 year old girls into vampires. The dream will quickly turn into a nightmare. With notably James Corden in the casting, the film connects absurd and sufficiently silly situations to entertain us.
The advantage with vampires is that you can transpose them into any universe. With Suckit is middle rock who welcomes bloodthirsty creatures. A black comedy in which a rock band struggles to break through. Until the day when Jennifer, the bass player of the group, is transformed into a vampire. Now charismatic and captivating, she attracts more and more audiences. This is the beginning of success for the group, but also what could cause its downfall as the corpses begin to pile up and Satan himself will be implicated.
Suck a rather nice B series marked by the presence pretty guests as Alice Cooper, Malcolm McDowell or Iggy Popto go with Rob Stefaniuk and Jessica Pare. Some visual ideas are to be noted in sequences of clips and concerts, and the soundtrack takes us into a pop rock style old school.
Abraham Lincoln is a great American figure since he is the 16th president of the United States between 1861 and 1865. But what if among his many duties he had also been a vampire hunter? This is what Seth Grahame-Smith imagined in his novel, adapted into a film by Timur Bekmambetov. On paper, it looks too big. And yet 20th Century Fox believed in it when it released the film in theaters in 2012.
Violent, gory and brutal, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter didn’t have much success. And this despite a nice cast with, besides Benjamin Walker in the main role, the presence of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper or Anthony Mackie.
We know what you’re going to say. That Vampires in privacy is a great comedy which has nothing to do with the previously mentioned films. In a way, we agree. But we are talking about “improbable” films here. And for once, before Taika Waititiwe never imagined seeing one day the daily life of vampires be immortalized by a film crew.
With his mockumentary, the director has done well. He signs a film, basically, totally absurd but which works precisely by the shift with the usual image of vampires. Clearly the movie on this list that will make you laugh the most. At least voluntarily…
