Moments that become eternal

moments

battan She is already one of the leading authors in the genre yuri In our country. In the last edition of Manga Barcelona, it was nominated twice, taking the ¡Huyamos juntas! award, I suppose for being a longer story and with more packaging than My sister’s friend. All of her works have a very particular treatment of love and affection, as well as the development of people with these desires.

Now these moments come to us where the author seems to take us by the hand to show us the impossible, ten unknown people who collide in many aspects and end up in a relationship of pure affection. From these unlikely situations in which more than a moral or a change of perspective what we get is a new approach to the people around us and the love we give and seek. Here is a brief summary of the five stories of her that she once posted on her social networks and are now gathered in this volume.

Anteros was not present

Anteros, son of the Greek god of war and goddess of love, is the personification of reciprocated love and avenger of unrequited love. A figure that must have all the schedule covered for all of us who have loved and have not been reciprocated.

moments

Those past loves that weigh like stones for not being able to be expressed, both verbally and physically or even in close silence. Love that over time ends up permeating in the form of stories, poems, songs, drawings or holding the hand of a stranger who has the same manicure as that person you once loved.

flakes on the green meadow

Desiring is something very human. Ambition and greed can place us in a position of greater power and prestige. But as the Buddha’s teachings recite, “the richer is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.” Thus we find a haughty character, obstinate in having the whole class under her influence. Until she crosses the path of the passing student and she sweats everything, a cynical attitude like Diogenes’ that will change the perspective of what is beautiful and valuable to someone who was always materialistic and vain.

Mourning at the beginning of summer

When we die, where do we go? What is left of us? And most importantly, what happens to those who we leave behind? If all these are questions that we have ever asked ourselves, imagine having someone who, to appease someone’s recent death, cuts them to the ground saying that after death there is nothing. Because it is difficult to face tragic moments, but it is more so when you are alone or the only thing that surrounds you is condescension. That is why sometimes a direct approach, or the simple company fills the space of doubts.

Goodbye, Humanity + Extra

Stories about vampires have been written to hundreds, beings with pale complexions and long fangs who refuse human company because of their condition as blood-suckers. But stories in which these almost immortal beings are ostracized by gossip and superstitions, not so many. Even less in which vampires are the ones who face feelings in a warmer way.

moments

This story oozes distilled and sincere love on every page. Two characters opposite in appearance but who break barriers with the marked personality of both. It is in the extra chapter where we see the influential power of affection above all else.

the little mermaid

The original tale of Christian Anderson it was much more raw than the adaptation he did Disney. In it, the happy ending was not reached, but the little mermaid, seeing that her love would not be reciprocated, sacrifices herself. This extreme action for unrequited love is something that most of us will see with terrible sorrow, but as Sabina sang, “loves that kill never die.” It is on a spiritual retreat trip that the protagonist meets a soul in pain like her and they go together to drown their sorrows in thermal baths, food and drink. Curiously, when something like this is shared, what it really serves the most is to reinforce the convictions with which it has already been reached, or is it what a server thinks.

I do not think a final reflection is necessary, the drawing of battan captivates from his long works to these small pieces, as well as his treatment of love and affection, which from particular becomes enviable and desirable due to how well narrated and close his works are. I recommend it for everyone who wants to start or continue with this author, and even for those who think that the romance or yuri genre is not for them, give it a read and let the brightness of its cartoons take away your regret for a few moments.

moments

The best

• The always brilliant drawing of this author.
• Bittersweet stories full of sensitivity.

Worst

• Even within the realistic romance, Battan is still an idealist, don’t break your heart people.
