Created by Kevin Williamson, father of Dawsonand Julie Plec, Vampire Diaries came to the small screen as the whole world rode the Twilight wave! Well seen… Quite loosely adapted from the literary saga for teens Vampire’s Diary by LJ Smith, the series was a very nice success. The proof ? Broadcast from 2009 to 2017 on CW (and it was shown on a multitude of channels in France!), It lasted no less than 8 seasons and 171 episodes then had two spin-offs, The Originals (2013-2018) and Legacies (2018-2022).
What happens to the stars of Vampire Diaries ?
Proven formula, Vampire Diaries featured a love triangle formed by Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and two dark vampires, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and his brother Damon (Ian Sommerhalder). We also met Bonnie and Caroline, Elena’s BFFs, a few other humans, but also supernatural creatures and mystical forces.
But since the end of this cult series, what has become of its main protagonists? Everyone gently pursues their career with more or less success. We’ve seen both of them in lots of series, TV movies and films (but more of the kind to hit on VOD than at the box office). Amusing, always complicit, Paul and Ian have launched their own brand of bourbon, Brother’s Bond!
Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert). Born in 1989, she is omnipresent on the screen and plays roles in films… which are rarely released in theaters. Ex of Ian Somerhalder from whom she separated in 2013, since 2020, she has been inseparable from Shaun White, snowboard star.
Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore). Born in 1978, he starred in the series V-Wars aired on Netflix in 2018 and canceled after just one season. And that’s about it. He is married to Nikki Reed, an ex of Twilightsince April 26, 2015. They are the parents of a daughter, Bohdi Soleil, born in 2017, and are expecting their second child.
Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore). Born in 1982, he starred in Tell Me a Story, an anthology series created by Kevin Williamson. He is the new Captain Kirk in the series star trek : Strange New Worlds. He is twice married, and twice divorced (to Torrey DeVitto and Ines de Ramonthe new girlfriend of Brad Pitt).
Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett). Born in 1989, she appeared in a few series and TV movies. Also a singer, she has released four albums. Since 2017, she has been in a relationship with Darren Genet, director of photography by profession (and twenty years her senior). They got engaged in 2022.
Candice Accola King (Caroline Forbes). Born in 1987, she is becoming increasingly rare. In 2012 she met musician Joe King, they married two years later and the couple had two daughters, Florence, born in and Josephine, born in . They separated in 2022.
Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert). Born in 1988, he played firefighter Jimmy Borrelli in the fourth season of Chicago Fire. And that’s about it for the very discreet grandson of the legendary Steve McQueen, who hasn’t given much more news since 2020…
Matthew Davis (Alaric Saltzman). Born in 1978, he went on to play Alaric Saltzman in Legaciesthe spin-off of Vampire Diaries. Since 2017, he shares the life of Kiley Casciano with whom he has a daughter, Ripley, born in 2020.
Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan). Born in 1985, he recently played in the playoffs Dare me and Step Up: High Water. He is the father of a little girl born in 2011 from his relationship with a certain Alanna Turner.
Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood). Born in 1985, he was notably one of the headliners of Roswell, New Mexico which ended in 2022. He is in a relationship with the Dutch model Bregje Heinen.
